My Top Three This Week
Greetings to all my semi-constant readers. March is leaving us soon snd the days seem longer and there is a smell in the air that is new to all of us. It is the smell of hope. I just finished the fantastic new Stephen King book Later and it was a classic King tale. And speaking of tales here a few good ones.
1) Generation on HBO Max is like a bullet train you cannot get off and you don't want to. This is the story of a group of high school students coming to terms with their sexuality in the non binary , gender fluid world we live in. A kiddie pool birth at a mall, school lockdown and bisexual teen outs himself his sister's wedding are just a few of the highlights of this crazy series. Martha Plimpton as the uptight mother to three teens is perfectly cast as well as Chloe East and Uly Schlesinger are fantastic as Naomi and Nathan both having an affair with the same boy and Justice Smith is brilliant as the flamboyant troubled Chester navigating his way in the world. A very good binge
2) Ginny and Georgia -the anti Gilmore Girls Netflix Original is a well written series that avoids all the cliches of a young 30 year old Georgia ( Brianne Howey) with a smart fifteen year old Ginny (Antonia Gentry). The bond they have is almost unbreakable as they move from town to town as Georgia leaves a trail of broken hearts and broken bank accounts. There is a big mystery surrounding Georgia and her previous relationships and she is already starting mischief in their new home town. Gentry and Howey are fantastic and have great chemistry.
3) Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ is a bright heartfelt story in a sea of dark comedies and thrillers, I haven't smiled let alone laughed at a genuinely sweet comedy in so long I forgot they existed. Jason Sudeikis is at his most charming as Ted Lasso a U.S. American Football coach who heads to the UK to coach an English Football team. His hiring is done as a result of a bitter divorce between the team's owners and the expectation unbeknownst to him is that he will fail. Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton the newly divorced owner of A.F.C. Richmond team is trying to bring the team down to spite her ex husband and it is her relationship with Ted that fuels this series. You might remember her as Septa Unella on GOT ( Shame , Shame) and you will be very surprised she has a beautiful singing voice. This whole cast is unbelievable and Sudeikis will step into your heart. Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed , Brett Goldstein , Phil Dunster and Brendan Hunt are just amazing in these roles as is everyone on the team.
