My Top 5 Obsessions This Week
Hello all of my semi constant readers. I just spent 1 perfect day in Taipei and it can be done and here are my top five for this amazing trip.
1) The Taipei Maokong Gondola is probably the best value in Taipei. This 2.7 mile gondola has 4 stations ending at a tea house. High above the beautiful canopy you can see Taipei 101. Take the "Crystal Cabins" for a beautiful glass bottom boat effect. Don't miss the amazing Zhinan Temple with its gorgeous dragon fountain. Afterward head over to Sunmerry for the most famous Taipei treat. The individual pineapple cakes. pick up a whole box. They will never make it home.
2) Din Tai Fung, a Michelin star rated dim sum place in Taiwan is a must do for some of the best dim sum in Taiwan. Every bite was delicious especially the Truffle and Pork Xiaolongbao and the crispy potstickers and a icy cold bottle of Taiwan beer to wash it down with. Oh and walk down the street for a Mango Snowflake Ice at Smoothie House is the perfect way to cool down from the heat.
3) A visit to The lovingly restored Baoan Temple made me awestruck. And thirsty, so a drink at the Woobar where they lovingly craft exotic cocktails infused with cotton candy, bubblegum , ginger and tea. Head upstairs to the top bar of this W Hotel for the best view of Taipei 101 in the city for the price of a superb drink.
4) Head over to Shilin Nightmarket for some evening shopping for trendy clothes, the latest fidget spinners and a dress tie for your cat and sample some of the famous street food. It can get super crowded but reward yourself with the best meal ever for only a few Taiwan Dollars at Lao Shan Dong noodles made by hand, super friendly service and kind to hungary travelers . We shared a small bowl of the famous beef noodle soup and were not disappointed. Delicious melt in your mouth noodles a tasty broth and lots of spicy beef chunks.
5) Ending the night at the infamous Red House area, where behind the landmark Red House stands a small city of bars just opening around midnight.Open air tables and lots of leafy plants and misty fans while you drink the freshest Ginger Mojitos in Taipei. Lean into it , it goes until 4am.
This now brings us to a perfect day in Taipei. Come see for yourself.
