The Man Who Invented Christmas, Teeny Tiny Christmas, Sia Christmas Album, Mariah Carey Christmas at the Colosseum and a Christmas Prince

🎄My Top 5 Obsessions This Week🎄

This is my annual Christmas holiday edition packed with some of my favorites hand picked just for you. Wishing you the best the holiday has to offer in Entertainment.

1) The Man who Invented Christmas, the perfect holiday movie featuring Dan Stevens as a Charles Dickens with writer’s block on the cusp of a great idea for “A Christmas Carol” and a wonderful Christopher Plummer as the irascible Scrooge and Jonathan Pryce as Dickens father. Watching the characters come alive was amazing. This film makes you feel the chill of winter and the breathtaking cinematography and score makes you want to live in that world , for a little while anyway .

2)  Teeny Tiny Christmas on The Food Network featuring artist Jay Baron
( known for his viral miniature edible food videos) as he and his wife and friends prepare a tiny Christmas meal. Check out the tiny pineapple honey glazed ham and miniature gingerbread house.

3) Sia Every Day is Christmas, Kaskade Christmas, and Gwen Stefani You Make It Fee Like Christmas are some of the Christmas music offerings this year . All are good but Sia’s Album has some very good tracks such as “Ho Ho Ho” and other original songs. Kascade is a beautiful icy chill album perfect for the laid back  after hours.

4) Mariah Carey at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace doing her “All I Want for Christmas is You” Show is the perfect Christmas gift wrapped up in the most beautiful bow. The sets were amazing. She is in great voice hitting her trademark high notes and she looked better than I have seen her in years. Her fans went wild as she performed Oh Santa! , Charlie Brown Christmas , Joy To The World, her new single The Star and ended the show with Emotions, Hero and We BelongTogether. The finale was of course. All I Want For Christmas which brought the roof down.

5) A Christmas Prince a Netflix is the ultimate Christmas shmaltz fest. It has everything- a waif, a prince , a smart city girl and a benevolent queen. Lush scenery, castle and snowy fjords, countryside, intrigue. Christmas and fireplace porn. Don’t forget about the handsome prince rake who is never what’re seems..The perfect ingredients for holiday in the Royals style

Christmas Bonus🎁

6)  Christmas on The Set on Sundance Channel December 23rd features the holiday celebration episodes of  all the shows you know and loved such as M*A*S*H and other Holiday favorites

Three Billboards Outside of Ebbings Missouri, Dark, Search Party, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Fun Mom Dinner

My Top 5 Obsessions This Week

Greetings to all my semi constant readers and welcome to anyone who stumbled in by accident . I am back again with all new and some improved favorites.

1) Three Billboards Outside of Ebbings Missouri is a dream team of a cast. It feels like a Cohen brothers movie when they  were at the top of their movie making game. Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are equally matched up in this darkly twisted comic thriller. McDormand has never been more acerbic, Harrelson more folksy and lovable and Rockwell more creepy. McDormand plays a mother on the edge after her daughter’s rape and murder go unsolved by the local police. On a side note McDormand’s son played by Lucas Hedges is having a pretty good year in film this year.

2)  Dark .The trippy new thriller streaming all 10 episodes on Netflix is my favorite binge this season. Set in a small German town in 2019 , four families are hopelessly intertwined beginning the year 1986 when Something happened and now 33 years later it is happening again. Superb acting and lush cinematography make this a favorite right now.

3) Search Party 2nd season is a darker version than season one. The Scooby-Doo Gang is in deep trouble this time and they are all losing it, each in their own way. While still a droll comedy it has darker, sharper edges and I want to see what happens next. Side note John Early is in just about everything I like. Love him

4) The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is back for a 2nd season on Amazon as well and is as fresh and quirky as we have come to expect from Amy Sherman-Palladino. Rachel Brosnahan as Midge Maisel is perfect and the supporting cast is incredible, especially Alex Borstein.

6) Fun Mom Dinner was a complete surprise to me. Out now on DVD , this is one of the funnier offerings we have had since Bridesmaids. Written by Julie Rudd ( featuring a cameo by husband Paul) this playful mom romp is perfect for some real laughs. A cast of comedy superstars- Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, Bridget Everett, Rob Huebel, Adam Scott and Katie Aselton. Some great supporters-Adam Levine, John Early and Paul Rust round out a fun night out for some overwhelmed moms who just need to let loose.

SMILF, Love You More, At Home With Amy Sedaris, Lady Bird and There’s Johnny

My Top 5 Obsessions This Week

Greetings to all of my semi constant readers. It is time for a post Thanksgiving roundup of favorites. Hope you enjoy them celebrate the upcoming season with lots of entertainment.

1) SMILF on Showtime is a Rosie showcase if there ever as one. If anyone had any inkling of the depths of this talented woman, it s me. I have seen the sadness behind her eyes even as she was making us laugh. Frankie Shaw is the SMILF here , a twenty something raising  Larry and maintaining a retalionship with her mom Tutu (O’Donnell) who suffers from depression. This is a standout.

2) Love You More a pilot on Amazon that I hope gets picked up.starring Bridget Everett as a Chardonnay guzzling party girl with big appetites for men and booze by night, but by day she is extraordinary as her job as a counselor at an independent living residence for young adults with Down Syndrome. It is full of bawdiness, pathos, oh it has musical numbers. Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, this has lots of promise. oh and Loni Anderson plays her mom so sweetly. Am I seeing a great mom trend!

3) At Home With Amy  Sedaris is a fever dream of a show. Part Pee Wee’s Playhouse, part 1960’s Women’s crafting shows and a subversive cooking and outdoor show with a cast of characters, many played by her. A holiday must watch. If you love Amy as much I do this is must see TV.

4) Lady Bird out at theaters now, an homage to Sacramento, written and directed by Greta Gerwig is the first in a line up of great movies I am seeing right now. Saoirse Ronan is such a transcendent performer she can play anything. Laurie Metcalf, Laurie Metcalf, Laurie Metcalf-this is your Oscar year. I feel it. This coming of age film takes the mundane life and re-examines it under a microscope. The whole cast featuring the Amazing Tracy Letts and Lois Smith and Lucas Hedges someone I expect we will be seeing much more of in the coming year.

5) There’s...  Johnny! On Hulu is about young Andy Klavin who becomes a gofer at “The Tonight Show” circa 1972. Great cast featuring Jane Levy, Roger Bart, Tony Danza . But the great focal point is how the actual footage of the show featuring Johnny, Ed and Doc. It is a love story to the glory days and I loved it.
