Three Billboards Outside of Ebbings Missouri, Dark, Search Party, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Fun Mom Dinner

My Top 5 Obsessions This Week

Greetings to all my semi constant readers and welcome to anyone who stumbled in by accident . I am back again with all new and some improved favorites.

1) Three Billboards Outside of Ebbings Missouri is a dream team of a cast. It feels like a Cohen brothers movie when they  were at the top of their movie making game. Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are equally matched up in this darkly twisted comic thriller. McDormand has never been more acerbic, Harrelson more folksy and lovable and Rockwell more creepy. McDormand plays a mother on the edge after her daughter’s rape and murder go unsolved by the local police. On a side note McDormand’s son played by Lucas Hedges is having a pretty good year in film this year.

2)  Dark .The trippy new thriller streaming all 10 episodes on Netflix is my favorite binge this season. Set in a small German town in 2019 , four families are hopelessly intertwined beginning the year 1986 when Something happened and now 33 years later it is happening again. Superb acting and lush cinematography make this a favorite right now.

3) Search Party 2nd season is a darker version than season one. The Scooby-Doo Gang is in deep trouble this time and they are all losing it, each in their own way. While still a droll comedy it has darker, sharper edges and I want to see what happens next. Side note John Early is in just about everything I like. Love him

4) The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is back for a 2nd season on Amazon as well and is as fresh and quirky as we have come to expect from Amy Sherman-Palladino. Rachel Brosnahan as Midge Maisel is perfect and the supporting cast is incredible, especially Alex Borstein.

6) Fun Mom Dinner was a complete surprise to me. Out now on DVD , this is one of the funnier offerings we have had since Bridesmaids. Written by Julie Rudd ( featuring a cameo by husband Paul) this playful mom romp is perfect for some real laughs. A cast of comedy superstars- Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, Bridget Everett, Rob Huebel, Adam Scott and Katie Aselton. Some great supporters-Adam Levine, John Early and Paul Rust round out a fun night out for some overwhelmed moms who just need to let loose.
